This is my Senior Project done at the University of Colorado. The goal of the project was to be able to remotely turn off and on PC's. (Turning off a PC is the easy part, getting it back on afterwords is the pain...) I deem the project successful. Our sponsor as far as we know, are using this project in their place of work. I am posting here the project summary and everything that was released. I hope some one out there finds this useful and if you do please let us know!rnNote: there is a starting frame work for scheduling in the project, we did not get this done as we ran out of time and our main purpose was to turn on and off PC's remotely, not to do scheduling of anti-virus and such. If you want to take this and run with it, go for it.rnrnCreaters:rnBrian Cairns - Brian.Cairns@colorado.edurnLuis Hierro - Luis.Hierro@colorado.edurnLeo Meltreger - Leonid.Meltreger@colorado.edurnDrew Ford - fordac@colorado.edurnKris Sherrerd - stimepy@aodhome.comrnrnProject Sponsor:rnAmadeus ConsultingrnrnProject Summary:rnAmadeus is a rapidly-growing software consultancy firm based in Boulder, Colorado. With 40-full time employees, Amadeus focuses on rapidly delivering effective software solutions.rnLike many businesses, Amadeus provides desktop computers to their employees. These computers represent a substantial portion of Amadeus’s power consumption. This power consumption is not only expensive (in excess of $5000 per month), but it also contributes to increased carbon emissions from power plants.rnA potential mitigation for the energy use problem is to turn desktop machines off when they are not being used. This could result in an energy savings of 50% or more. Unfortunately, at a technical firm such as Amadeus, employees depend on remote access to their desktop machines. What is needed is a method for controlling the power state of computer systems remotely.rnThe goal of this project is to produce a system that can be deployed in small and medium businesses with minimal effort, and that offers the features and usability that typical office users require.rnSleep if Not Needed (SINN), presents a web-based interface through which administrators are able to delegate control of specific computer systems to users and users in turn are able to control systems that have been assigned to them (sleep, wake, off, etc.).rnrnrnSome Pictures of the project:rnDashBoardrnrnrnMachine PagernrnrnWindows Tray IconrnrnrnTerms of Use(added August 2009):rnGNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 3rnhttp://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.htm
